The SHL selected Dakota Jackalopes G Lorne Mollenkamp as its Player of the Week. The highly-touted rookie, chosen with the second pick in the draft, has been turning heads around the league since his debut. Three weeks into the season, Mollenkamp has the SHL’s best save percentage (.943) and the second-lowest goals-against average (2.08).
On the week, Mollenkamp went 1-1-1 with a 2.27 GAA and a .936 save percentage. His strongest performance occurred on Saturday, when he stopped 42 shots to lead the Jackalopes to a 5-1 rout of Portland. His sparkling outing allowed Dakota to avenge a loss to the Bluebacks at home earlier in the week.
“The way that Lorne has adjusted to the pace of play in the SHL has been incredible,” said Jackalopes coach Flim Dahlgren. “His patience, confidence, and calm would cause you to think that he’s 31, not 21. I look forward to seeing what this young man can accomplish as his career unfolds. I hope our fans recognize how fortunate they are to get to see him play.”
