The SHL selected Hamilton Pistols C Calvin Frye as its Player of the Week. The Player of the Week Award has been dominated by the Pistols lately; LW Steven Alexander received the honor three times in the past four weeks, and G Lasse Koskinen was selected a couple weeks before that. Hamilton had an undefeated week, and Frye’s 8 points (5 goals, 3 assists) were one of the key catalysts for that success. Frye now has 45 goals and 83 points on the season, both good for second in the SHL.
Frye had a hat trick along with an assist on Tuesday, leading the way in the Pistols’ 6-4 win over Kansas City. On Thursday, he scored the first goal and assisted on two others as Hamilton took a key 4-0 decision over rival New York. Then on Saturday, Frye scored the lone goal of the game in a 1-0 victory over another rival, Quebec.
“What Calvin’s been able to do and how he’s grown over the years, that’s been a huge blessing for us,” said Pistols coach Keith Shields. “He’s a great scorer, he’s a great passer, he plays heads-up defense, and he’s a leader in the locker room. He can’t carry a tune, but that’s about all he can’t do.”
