The SHL named Washington Galaxy G Roger Orion as its Player of the Week. Orion had a strong week in net, posting a 4-0-0 record with a a 1.75 GAA and a .940 save percentage. Orion has now won 5 starts in a row, which has allowed the Galaxy to establish a clear lead atop the highly competitive East, building a 5-point advantage.
On Saturday, Orion made 40 saves as Washington turned back a challenge from second-place New York. The next night, he held Hamilton to a lone goal in a 2-1 victory. Then on Tuesday, he turned aside 22 shots as the Galaxy shellacked Seattle by a 6-1 margin.
“I’m an old goalie myself, and I can tell the guys who have the knack and the ones who don’t,” said Galaxy coach Rodney Reagle. “It’s a tricky balance. You’ve got to be mentally tough, because the pressure really ratchets up in key moments and even little mistakes can lead to disaster. And you’ve got to be a little nuts, because you’re signing up for a position where guys are firing a hard rubber biscuit at you for 60 minutes. Fortunately, Roger’s got the right makeup. He’s tough and just crazy enough to succeed.”
